Wilder, Robert Parmelee was born on August 2, 1863 in Kolhapur, India. Son of Royal Gould and Eliza Jane (Smith) W.


Bachelor of Arts, College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), 1886, A.M., 1888. Graduate Union Theological Seminary, 1891. Doctor of Divinity, Ursinus College, 1925.


Founder, 1886, and later traveling secretary and member Executive Committee, Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions. Founder British Student Volunteer Missionary Union, 1892. Nat. secretary Intercollegiate Young Men’s Christian Association of India and Ceylon, and general secretary Indian National Council, Young Men’s Christian Association, 1899-1902.

Traveling secretary, Student Volunteer Movement of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, 1903-1904. Secretary British Student Christian Movement. 1905-1916; while in England member Executive Committee National Laymen’s Missionary Movement of England.

Member National Council Young Men’s Christian Association (England). Senior secretary religious work department of International Committee Young Men’s Christian Association, 1916-September 1919. During World War I served as director religious work bureau, National War Work Council of Young Men’s Christian Association.

General secretary Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions, 1919-1927. Executive secretary Near East Christian Council, 1927-1933. As representative of the World’s Student Christian Federation addressed students in nearly every country of Europe.
