Robert Snider studied at the Winona School of Photography, Winona, Minnesota, in 1942, then took a Master of Science in Visual Education in 1949 at Indiana University, Bloomington. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the university's School of Education in 1956.
Robert Snider has been on the professional staff of the National Education Association in Washington, D.C., since 1958, directing the publications unit of its Department of Audiovisual Education from 1965 to 1970. Robert Snider served as book-review editor of AV Communications Review in 1970-1973 and was on the Education Department faculty of the University of Chicago, Illinois, from 1953 to 1958. He was director of visual education at Mankato State University, Minnesota, in 1949-1951.
