Member, NZ Executive of the Labour Party, 1978-1988. Served on Party’s Policy Council. President, Labour Youth Council.

Secretary. Labour Womens’ Council, has represented Labour party at a number of international events. Member of Parliament, Mount Albert, 1981. Chaired parly. Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.

Served on the Select Committee on Government Administration. Chaired the government, caucus committee on foreign affairs and security, served on caucus committees on women, social welfare and justice. Minister of Housing and Conservation, 1987-1989.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Health and Minister of Labour, 1989-1990. Professional career: lecturer in political studies, Auckland University, New Zealand, 1973-1975 and 1977-1981.
