Successively pastor First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, First Church, Cameron, West Virginia, Upper Buffalo Presbyterian Church of Pennsylvania until 1903, Third Presbyterian Church, Los Angeles, 1903-1907.

First Presbyterian Church, Alhambra, California, 1908-1912. Superintendent Anti-Saloon League for Southern California, 1913-1933. Executive secretary Board of Strategy for Southern California (20 Dry Groups), 1932 campaign.

Police commissioner, Los Angeles, 1927. Director Anti-Saloon League of America, since 1916. Home: Eagle Rock, Calif.
