Sandra McLeod Humphrey is an American psychologist and author. She wrote books for children and young adults which aimed to help them develop a strong sense of their own identity through discussing traditional values, feelings or struggles they face.
Background
Sandra McLeod Humphrey was born on August 6, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. She was a daughter of Murdoch John McLeod Sveeggen a public relations specialist in military and Virginia Carol Sveeggen (maiden name Matthews), a social worker.
Education
Sandra McLeod Humphrey did her studies at the University of Minnesota. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958 and a Master of Arts three years later.
Sandra McLeod Humphrey started her career as a clinical psychologist. In 1961, she joined the staff of Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center in Minnesota where she spent thirty-one years helping young people and young women with character disorders.
After retiring in 1992, Humphrey concentrated on writing books addressed to youngsters aimed to help them develop themselves and deal with various problems. She authored such books as ‘It's Up to You...What Do You Do?’ and ‘Hot Issues, Cool Choices’. She also worked as an educational consultant and visited schools to discuss her writings with children and to know more about their ideas and personal experiences. Besides, Humphrey contributed stories to children's periodicals.
Moreover, Humphrey was active as a volunteer, facilitator, and mentor in various organizations including juvenile ones and animal rights groups, such as Foster Care Review Board in Hennepin County, Hennepin County Humane Society, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the National Humane Education Society.

Sandra McLeod Humphrey married a merchandiser Brian Neil Humphrey on September 16, 1961. The family produced three children named Jade Humphrey Sholty, Brandon McLeod, and Patricia Humphrey Warren.
Sandra and Brian lived together until their tragic death in a fire in 2012.
