Sang studied at Seoul National University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. In 1985 he became a Bachelor of Science. In two years he received a degree of the Master of Science. In 1997 he was a student of the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He became a Doctor of Philosophy.
Sang worked as a senior researcher in Pacific Corporation in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 1987 to 1993. In 1997 he became a postdoctoral research associate of the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He worked there for two years. In 1999 he worked as an assistant professor at Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Sang married to Kyung-mi Cho on November 1, 1992. Children: Seung Hoon, Jeong Hoon.
