Miles, Sherman was born on December 5, 1882 in Washington, District of Columbia, United States. Son of Nelson Appleton and Mary (Sherman) Miles.

Education

Bachelor of Science, United States Military Academy, 1905. Student Army War College, 1921-1922, Command and General staff schedul, 1926-1927.

Career

Commissioned Second lieutenant, United States Army, 1905, and advanced through grades to major general, 1942. Served successively in Cavalry, Coast Atry., and Field Artillery, also several times on General Staff and as military attache in Europe, 1912-1940.
