Simone worked variously as an English teacher in Crete, an actor with the Organic Theater, an elementary schoolteacher, and a property manager. Since 1982 she served as an English teacher at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.
Also she was a director of continuing education at University of Dubuque, and workshop presenter and consultant at Bures and Associate, Inc.
On September 1, 1966, Simone married John N. Deely, but they divorced in 1978. They have a common son Matthew Austen Deely. The she married a professor Allen Lee Bures on March 11, 1979.
