Martin, Sylvester Mitchell was born on August 16, 1857 in Antioch, Ohio, United States. Son of Enoch and Nancy (Huffman) Martin.

Education

Educated normal schools at Antioch and Stafford, O. Doctor of Medicine Barnes U. Medical College, St. Louis, 1905. Honorary Master of Arts, Plattsburg (Missouri) College, 1899.

Career

Began teaching school at 15 and taught 15 years. Principal high school 4 years. Teacher at Ohio U., Athens, 1882-1884.

Vice-president and professor science and German, Bowling Green (Missouri) College, 2 years, 1884-1886. Specialized in elocution and penmanship. Ordained ministry Christian (Disciples) Church, 1885.

State evangelist of Christian chs. of Missouri, 1888-1891. General evangelism, since 1891. Has conducted over 295 revivals.
