In 1972 Tammo studied at RHBS High School in Zaltbommel, Netherlands. In 1981 he was a student of the University of Groningen in Groningen, Netherlands. He received a degree of the Doctor of Medicine. In 1993 Tammo studied at RUL in Maastricht, Netherlands. he became a Doctor of Philosophy. from 1980 to 1986 Tammo studied at Free University Amsterdam in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He became a Master in Medicine.
Tammo worked as a resident in otolaryngology at the University of Amsterdam Hospital in Amsterdam, Netherlands from 1981 to 1986. In this year he became a member of staff department of Otolaryngology at the University of Maastricht Hospital. He held this position until 1993. Since 1993 Tammo had a Private practice in De Wever Hospital in Heerlen, Netherlands. Also, he worked as a clinical assistant professor at the department of otolaryngology at the University of Maastricht in Netherlands. Tammo is a teacher at the Medical Faculty of the Maastricht University in Netherlands.
Tammo married to Reina Hertzdahl. They have two children: Mees Zijlker and Derk Zijlker.
