Pashkovsky, Theophilus Nicholas was born on February 19, 1874 in Russia. Son of Nicholas and Natalie (Vlossov) Pashkovsky.

Education

Graduate Theological Seminary of Kiev, 1894. Honorary Doctor of Divinity Nashotah Episcopal Seminary, 1940.

Career

Teacher Normal School, Kiev, 1894-1895. Member of staff of cathedral, San Francisco, 1895-1897. Appointed secretary to North America Ecclesiastical Consistory, 1897.

Ordained priest Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church (Eastern Church), 1897. Dean of cathedral, San Francisco, 1905. Translations to Warsaw, Poland, 1913.

Army chaplain, 1915-1918. On account of war was affiliated with Young Men’s Christian Association, in Moscow, 1918-1922, later in charge parish in S. Russia. Appointed by the Patriarch, bishop of Chicago, and consecrated December 10, 1922.

Appointed bishop of Canada and Chicago, August 4, 1923. Relieved of charge in Canada, July 30, 1926, transferred to San Francisco, 1931. Elected presiding bishop, 1934, later metropolitan archbishop of the United States and Canada.
