Thierry Hughes Dubost was born on June 4, 1958, in Cherbourg, France. He is the son of Jacques Léon Dubost and Thérèse Berthe (Pruvost) Dubost.
Dubost received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Caen in 1982. Two years later he got a Diploma of Advanced Studies from that university. In 1993, he finally earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Paris-Sorbonne University.
Dubost's career began in 1985, he had worked as a schoolteacher in France for eight years. Just for a year from 1993, he had held the position of an assistant professor at the University of Caen, rising to an associate professor of English in 2000. He is now teaching there as a professor, beginning in 2001. He was also the head of English studies at the Open University of Caen. Additionally, Dubost is a current Dean of Distance Learning Center of the University of Caen.
Dubost has conducted researches on the plays of Eugene O’Neill and on contemporary American and Irish drama, and has reflected the results of that researches in his writings.

Dubost is married to Eliane Jacqueline Fontaine on August 26, 1983. That marriage produced two children - Clarissa and Valentin.
