Hutchens began her career as an editor and policy analyst of Citizens for a Sound Economy in 1988. Two years later she took a position of a policy analyst of Citizens for Congressional Reform. Also, Trudy served as an assistant editor of Family Voice Magazine and Concerned Women for America from 1991 to 1993. Since 1993 she has been an editor of Concerned Women for America.
