Career

From 1897 his works were exhibited by MOLKh - The Moscow Society of Art Lovers and the Moscow Art Society

Since 1899 his works were represented at the exhibitions of the Wanderers society (Society of Travelling Exhibitions)

1905 - he made a journey to Scandinavian countries and Paris

1920-1930s - he painted places connected with I. Stalin (1926), V. Lenin (1945) and A. Pushkin (1935)

He travelled to Donbass (Donetsk coal mines) and to Polar regions to depict the heroics of communist construction.

1944-1945 - he was attracted by wooden churches of the Russian North.

1947-1948 - he visited his native severely war-damaged Belarus where he painted landscapes ("Spring Blossoms Again" 1947).

Achievements

  • 1910s - he pioneered the genre of ‘memorial painting’

    1930s - his works were nominated for the Stalin Prize
