Walter Sorrells was born on October 28, 1962, in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
Walter Sorrells graduated from Haverford College in 1985, where he majored in History.
Walter Sorrells began his career as a novelist in 1995. He published three novels and in 1998 adopted the pseudonym Ruth Birmingham, which he uses simultaneously with his name.
Walter Sorrells wrote a series of crime novels about detective Sunny Childs from Atlanta. The series consists of six novels.
In 2002, he completed the unfinished manuscript of William J. Coughlin from the Charley Sloan series, published as Proof of Intent.
In 2005, Walter used a new pseudonym Lynn Abercrombie to publish two thrillers. Together with John Vornholt and Brad Strickland, he adapted the television series Flight 29 Down in a novel for youth.
Walter also wrote the scripts for National Public Radio programs.
Sorrells is the author of many popular books, such as Will to Murder, Cry for Justice, Proof of Intent, Silent Room, Erratum and others.
His novel Fulton County Blues won the 2000 Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Paperback Original, which was also nominated for a Shamus Award. The novel "Fake ID" was named one of the "10 Best Mysteries of 2005" by Booklist.
His writings were published in a number of national publications.
