(Spaniards and Nazi Germany makes a significant contributi...)
Spaniards and Nazi Germany makes a significant contribution to the understanding of Hispano-German relations during the 1930s and 1940s. This study shows that Naziphiles within the Spanish Falange, Spain's fascist party, made a concerted effort to bring their nation into World War II, and that only the indecisiveness of dictator Francisco Franco and diplomatic mistakes by the Nazis prevented them from succeeding.

This volume traces the course of Spanish military history, primarily during the 20th century. Chapter 1 provides the foundation for the role of the Spanish Army at home (the War of Independence [Napoleonic War], the Carlist Wars, and pronunciamientos), abroad (Morocco, 1859-60), and as an instrument for Liberal reforms in Spain. Chapter 2 covers the period following the Spanish-American War as the Army redirected its focus to the Spanish Protectorate in northern Morocco.

In Spain and the American Civil War, Wayne H. Bowen presents the first comprehensive look at relations between Spain and the two antagonists of the American Civil War. Using Spanish, United States and Confederate sources, Bowen provides multiple perspectives of critical events during the Civil War, including Confederate attempts to bring Spain and other European nations, particularly France and Great Britain, into the war; reactions to those attempts; and Spain’s revived imperial fortunes in Africa and the Caribbean as it tried to regain its status as a global power.

2011Bowen has recently embarked on a successful career as an elected politician, currently serving as a city councilman in his hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Moreover, he has done so unapologetically as a Republican, which is a rarity among academics in the humanities.
Wayne is a member of the American Historical Association, Society for Military History, German Studies Association, Society for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies, Southern Historical Association, Arkansas Association of College History Teachers and Phi Alpha Theta.
Wayne is a veteran of deployments to both Bosnia and Iraq, and has risen to the rank of Lt. Col. He served a tour in Iraq in 2004 as a civil affairs officer in charge of higher education and antiquities in Nineveh province. It was then, while engaged in intensive efforts in a war-torn environment to preserve archaeological sites dating back to the Assyrian Empire and other past civilizations, that he developed his interest in Middle Eastern affairs.
Physical Characteristics: Bowen is physically fit, has close-cropped hair, and carries himself with an obvious military bearing, all of which is undoubtedly a product of his many years as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.
