Meade, William was born on November 11, 1789 in Frederick County, Virginia, United States. Son of Colonel Richard Kidder and Mary Fitzhugh (Grymes) Meade.

Education

Graduated from College of New Jersey, 1808. Studied theology under Review Walter Addison.

Career

Ordained deacon Episcopal Church, 1811, priest, 1814. Assigned to Episcopal Church of Virginia, 1814. Elected assistant bishop Virginia, 1829.

Bishop Diocese of Virginia, 1841-1862. Established American Colonization Society, circa 1850. Presiding officer of convention which formulated constitution of General Council of Protestant Episcopal Church in Confederate States American, Columbia, South Carolina., 1861.
