In command West Indies Squadron, 1838-1840. In command Norfolk Navy Yard, also commanded administration Bureau Provisions and Clothing, 1845-1846.
In command California coast, 1846-1848. Head Philadelphia Naval Yard, 1849, later head Bureau Construction and Repair.
Chairman Lighthouse Board, 1852-1871.
In command expedition sent to settle commercial and other difficulties with Paraguay, 1858. Commissioned rear admiral, retired, 1862.
