William Pace was born on October 15, 1949, in Miami, Florida, United States. Son of Downer Pace and Ella Marguerite (Crittenden) Head.
William studied at Florida State University and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. He also finished the University of Miami with a Master of Arts in 1974. He received a Ph.D. in 1980 from Florida State University. William completed U.S. Army TRA DOC Course in 1985, and Aerospace Historian Course of U.S. Air Force in 1989.
William began to work at the University of Alabama in Huntsville as an assistant professor of history in 1981. Since 1984 he was a historian at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. Since 1996 he was a chief in Office of History WR-Accredited Land Consultants.
He held the position of an adjunct professor of history at Florida State University in Tallahassee in 1980. Besides, he worked at Macon State College, Georgia, since 1985, Mercer University, 1985-1992, Georgia Military College, 1989-1994. William was a Site Director at Alabama Heritage Festival in 1981, a history advisor at WMAZ-television Robins at Fifty in 1991.
His first historical study, based on his doctoral dissertation, was America’s China Sojourn. Head researched primarily and secondary sources for this survey of American-Chinese foreign policy during the 1942-1948 period. “Overall,” wrote Col. Phillip S. Meilinger in Airpower Journal, “Every Inch a Soldier is an excellent addition to the literature on airpower biography.”
In 2000 he began to work over Fifty Years of Air Force Theory, Doctrine, and Operations. William Head appeared in several documentary films; was a guest on television and radio programs; a conference organizer and participant.
William Head thought every Church member should be trusted with responsibilities. In building the local Methodist groups or 'societies', they should be trained to maintain the meetings and give pastoral care and challenge to the members. He also was sure, that a member of a Christian Church should support all social initiatives having a purpose to maintain and strengthen well-being and progress of the whole community and its members.
William Head was a member of Association of Third World Studies, Association of Asian Studies, Society for Military History, Georgian Association of Historians, Society for the History of the Federal Government.
On June 6, 1975, William married Randee Lynne Geiger. Their children are Matthew, Brian, Evan.
