(Vincent Chase, together with his boys, Eric, Turtle and J...)
Vincent Chase, together with his boys, Eric, Turtle and Johnny, back in business with agent Ari Gold. Their bond remains strong as they navigate the cutthroat world of Hollywood.
Calvin Harris is a Scottish singer, songwriter, record producer, and DJ. Calvin Harris became known for his gold-certified album "I Created Disco." His 2011 hit single with Rihanna, "We Found Love," made him a worldwide name and earned him his first No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, he's worked with Frank Ocean, Nicki Minaj, Ellie Goulding, Haim, and many more.
Background
Calvin Harris, born Adam Richard Wiles, was born on January 17, 1984, in Dumfries, Scotland. He is the son of David Wiles, a biochemist, and Pamela Wiles, a housewife. The couple married in Oxford before moving to the Dumfries suburb of Georgetown. He has two siblings, an elder sister, Sophie, and an elder brother, Edward.
Education
Calvin attended Dumfries High School. He was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999.
Before Calvin Harris became famous, he used to work in a supermarket stacking shelves, purely so that he could get enough money to buy music production equipment. He also once had a job in a fish factory. He also had ambitions to become a professional footballer.
Calvin Harris was first introduced to electronic music in his teens, recording his own demos in his very own bedroom. So occupied was he with the new hobby that he became an anti-social person. However, his hard work paid off when his songs were released by a label in early 2002. "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days" became his first professional releases.
Harris was discovered on MySpace by Tommy Sunshine who owned Xylophone Jones Recordings. But his big break came in 2006 when he was signed as Sony BMG's artist. His debut album was released in June 2007 under the title "I Created Disco." The effort gathered fans for Harris with the uptempo electronic tracks like "Vegas" and "The Girls." The album reached number eight on the United Kingdom Albums chart with sales of more than 100,000 copies. Harris then took some time to work on Kylie Minogue's "X" album, producing two of the tracks.
It did not take long for Harris to begin mulling for the sophomore effort. In 2008, he was halfway through completing songs for his new album when he said he lost his laptop at London Heathrow Terminal. Harris said he had the only existing copy of his album on the laptop but later confirmed that he actually did not lose the electronic device. He lied so that he could buy more time to finish the album. "Ready for the Weekend" was completed for release in August 2009. The lead single "I'm Not Alone" went straight to number one on the United Kingdom Singles Chart.
In support of his second album, Harris embarked on the United Kingdom and United States tours throughout the second half of 2009. His single "Dance wiv Me" was nominated as Best British Single at 2009 BRIT Awards. He was also later nominated for Best British Male at the 2010 BRIT Awards but lost it to Dizzee Rascal.
In July 2010, Harris released a mixtape titled "L.E.D. Festival" which was available for free a limited amount of time. Later in 2011, he hit the road as the supporting act of Rihanna in the European leg of her Loud Tour. He was also due to open for Katy Perry but backed out because of production issues and difficulties with Perry's management.
In June 2011, Harris released "Bounce" as the first single of his third studio album. It was followed by "Feel So Close" that became Harris' first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, peaking at number twelve. For the new album, Harris collaborated with the likes of Ellie Goulding, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Kelis and Florence Welch. "Feel So Close" won Best Electronic Video at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards where he was made the house DJ. Harris also won Video of the Year for his Rihanna-collaborative track "We Found Love" at the awards show. After months of promotional efforts, the album "18 Months" hit the stores on October 26, 2012, via Columbia Records.
In 2014, Harris collected his then-highest-charting single on Billboard Hot 100 when "Summer" reached No. 7. The song, which was one of the biggest hits of that year, was released as a single off his fourth album "Motion" that came out in November 2014 and featured another collaboration with Goulding called "Outside" and the James Newman - assisted "Blame."
The DJ returned with new music in July 2015, when he dropped "How Deep Is Your Love" which was his collaborative project with London-based production trio Disciples. In April 2016, he announced that he'd reunited with Rihanna for a new song called "This Is What You Came For." The track became Harris and RiRi's next big hit. It has so far peaked at No. 6 on Billboard Hot 100.
His album "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1" that was released on June 30, 2017. It reached number 2 in the United Kingdom and the United States charts.
In April 2018, Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa released the single 'One Kiss.' It reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and number 26 in the United States charts. In August Harris and Sam Smith released the single 'Promises.' It reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and number 65 in the United States charts.
In January 2019, Calvin Harris and Rag'n'Bone Man released the single 'Giant.' It reached number 2 in the United Kingdom charts.
In 2020, Harris released two EPs, Love Regenerator 1 and Love Regenerator 2, under his Love Regenerator alias. The third EP Love Regenerator 3 was released on 13 March 2020.
Calvin Harris is non-religious. He doesn't appear to talk about religion at all except some odd tweets about Catholics. In one he states that he has "passed a 'catholic supplies' store.
Politics
In 2017 Calvin Harris has upbraided the Conservative Party for using his music as Theresa May’s conference entrance music, quipping he did not want to be associated with "such a sad event."
The Prime Minister took to the stage in Manchester to Harris’s collaboration with Rihanna, "This Is What You Came For," before her speech turned to disaster.
Hours later, the Scottish musician and DJ indicated he would not have agreed to the coalition. He tweeted: "Conservative party conference playing my song was not approved - I do not support nor condone happy songs being played at such a sad event."
Views
When Calvin was asked about his earlier years of making music, he explained that since he was 13 years old, he had the dream of making music, and dabbled in it, but he felt like he didn’t actually truly take it seriously for a long time. He explained that this is a true difference between "dreaming" of something, and actually sitting down to work on achieving his goals. "I wasn't doing it until I was 23. It was a lot of failing."
Part of the reason why Calvin Harris makes so much money during his gigs is that he avoids performing at traditional concert venues, which eats up a ton of profits. He usually shows up at music festivals and uses the equipment and stage they have on-site for multiple artists. His only request is that the event puts in his SD card into the speaker system. That way, he can pocket all of the usual overhead costs, and let the music speak for itself without a fancy light show or backup dancers.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1, Harris was asked how he measures his own success. He said that he ignores how high a new song is on the chart, and pays more attention when he plays live. He said the reaction of real people in the crowd tells him when he actually made a good song.
Quotations:
"I'm not trying to be a celebrity, Justin Timberlake kinda guy."
"I try and sit on the fence because as soon as you voice any kind of opinion, people begin to think you're an idiot."
"I know how to treat my voice to make it sound as good as it possibly can - which is still not that good."
Personality
Adam changed his stage name to Calvin Harris because he thought it was much cooler than his real name, and he thought it would be much easier for fans to recognize and remember too. He released his first two singles, "Brighter Days" and "Bongos," under his new pseudonym.
Even though he makes party music, he is actually quite introverted. "I'm not good at interviews, I'm not good at dancing, I'm not good at looking like I'm having fun. I never will be, I don't think. Unless I go to a life coach."
Calvin does not drink any alcohol whatsoever. He stopped drinking in 2008 after he started to feel that hangovers and late-night parties were getting in the way of his growing music career.
On 14 November, Harris invaded the stage of the United Kingdom's The X Factor during a performance by Irish duo Jedward, holding a pineapple on his head and bending over to point at his buttocks. He was subsequently escorted from the studio by the security team and ejected from the ITV2 program The Xtra Factor, where he was due to appear as a guest the same night. He later apologized on Twitter. The same week, Harris spoke to The Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1 and revealed that he had been "inspired to make a mockery of the show", adding, "If you look at music it's a frightening stranglehold that Simon Cowell has got over the entire music chart in the UK at the moment."
Calvin Harris once mentioned that in Scotland, throwing a shoe at your friend is almost like giving them a hug. He mentioned in an interview that he continues to watch Scottish comedians, so he never forgets his roots. At his shows in the United Kingdom, he’s known for cursing quite a lot. In one video clip, he says, "I’m going to keep playing again and again until you tell me to f- off and never come back."
Physical Characteristics:
Over the years, Calvin's style and appearance have changed dramatically. During his teens and early 20's, he was skinny with brown hair in the long "emo" style. As he got older, he dyed his hair blonde, and got really fit. He became an underwear model for Armani.

Connections
Calvin Harris was in a relationship with Rita Ora. The two dated for a year from May 2013 to May 2014, and together they produced the hit single "I Will Never Let You Down." Their breakup was quite dramatic: apparently, it happened because Rita went on a secret trip to New York without consulting Calvin. Harris prohibited his ex-girlfriend to use any of the material that they produced together. The feud was finally resolved in 2016.
Calvin Harris was dating Aarika Wolf. They dated for a brief 7 months. They first met in July 2014 on the set of the music video for his single "Blame." The couple broke up in February 2015, possibly because of Calvin's fling with Taylor Swift.
Calvin Harris was in a relationship with Taylor Swift from 2015 to 2016. They started dating on 6th March 2015 and dated until May 2016. Calvin and Taylor broke up on June 2, 2016. The break-up was free of drama at the beginning, but things started getting complicated sometime later. The reason for their breakup was apparently the fact that Taylor had collaborated under a pen-name to Calvin's track with Rihanna, the summer hit "This Is What You Came For." However, he later confessed in an interview that he was not interested in collaborating with his girlfriend professionally. In response to this, Swift stated that he was "intimidated by her success." A Twitter feud between the ex-lovers followed. At the time Taylor was already dating Thor actor Tom Hiddleston, and Harris alluded to the fact in a very snarky tweet. He said that "if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex-boyfriend down for something to do."
Calvin Harris got back together with Aarikas Wolf in 2018. He attended the BRIT Awards 2019 with Aarika.
