He has been Chairman of Hermes Equity Ownership Services since 2009. He is an ex-chairman of Royal Dutch Shell and a director of Household Bank Holdings and of Accenture. He was knighted in 2000 (Knight Commander of the Order of Street Michael and Saint George).
Moody-Stuart became a Managing Director of The "Shell" Transport and Trading Company, p.l.c. in 1991 and was Chairman of Royal Dutch/Shell from 1998-2001.
He was succeeded by Sir Philip Watts. In February 2008, he hit the headlines with a call for a ban on "gas-guzzlers".
He was educated at Shrewsbury School and at Saint John"s College, Cambridge, where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy on a thesis on the Devonian sediments of Spitsbergen. He became a Fellow of this College in 2001.
