Murray Weiss earned a diploma from the School of Modem Photography in New York City (1951) and a Bachelor of Arts from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College (1952).
Murray Weiss was a visiting artist at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and at Viterbo College, La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1980. Since 1975 he has directed and presided over the Milwaukee Center for Photography (Wisconsin), which he co-founded. In 1977 Murray Weiss was appointed photography instructor-in-residence at Yale-Norfolk Summer Art School in Norfolk, Connecticut, and in 1974 he was a lecturer in the history of photography at the University of Wisconsin Art History Department, Milwaukee. In that year he also founded and directed Creative Photography Workshops in Milwaukee (until 1975). An instructor of photography at Philadelphia College of Art, Pennsylvania, from 1955 to 1972, Murray Weiss became an associate professor of art there in 1961 and director of the Photography/Film Department in 1970. In 1969-1972 he also lectured on the history of photography at Brooklyn College in New York City.
Murray Weiss produced and moderated Art and Artists for WUHY-FM Educational Radio in Philadelphia in 1967-1968.
