Oliver Gagliani studied at the California State University at San Francisco (1940-1942) and at the Heald Engineering College in San Francisco (1951-1953). He later received an Master of Fine Arts from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland (1972).
Mostly self-taught, Oliver Gagliani studied under and worked with some of the greatest photographers of the 20th century including, Ansel Adams, Minor White, Paul Caponigro, Cole Weston, Paul Strand, Ruth Bernhard and many others. He loved sharing his knowledge and in his later years conducted photographic workshops in Virginia City, Nevada. Oliver Gagliani has been an instructor of photography at the University of California Extension in San Francisco since 1969 and at Image Circle in Berkeley, California, since 1970.
