Stephen Brunt graduated from the University of Western Ontario where he acquired his Bachelor's degree in journalism.
Brunt started his career working for The Globe as an intern in 1982 and was a frequent sports panelist on TVOntario's now-defunct current affairs program Studio 2. He then worked in news and began to write for the sports section in 1985. Stephen is also a writer and broadcaster with Rogers Sportsnet.
Stephen Brunt's first book "Mean Business: The Creation of Shawn O'Sullivan" was published in 1988 when the boxer was still fighting and in mid-career. He wrote “The Roberto Alomar Story” in 1993. His book “Facing Ali” was written in 2002. Brunt is also the author of another boxing book “The Italian Stallions: Heroes of Boxing's Glory Days” that was written in 2003. This work is filled with archival photos and profiles of Italian-American boxers from the now-defunct Sportmagazine. He has also written “The Way it Looks from Here” in 2004, “Searching for Bobby Orr” in 2006 and “Gretzky's Tears” in 2009. His book “Now I'm Catching On: My Life On and Off the Air” was written in 2016.
On 22 February 2018, Stephen was announced to join Primetime Sports for 20 weeks a year as a part-time co-host. Brunt is currently working as a columnist for the Sportsnet.ca, Sportsnet.
Stephen Brunt’s book “Facing Ali” was published in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and Norway, and was named one of the ten best sports books of the year by Sports Illustrated.
Stephen was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame in 2007.
