Teh-yin Li graduated from the National Southeastern University in Nanjing, China in 1925. In 1930, he went to America to study economic statistics and received Master of Arts in 1931 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1934.
After graduating from the National Southeastern University, Nanjing, in 1925, Li Teh-yin taught mathematics for five years in middle schools and universities, and also took part in revolutionary activities. He returned to China by way of Europe where he studied the economic conditions of the various countries. Since return he was professor of economics at the National Central University.
