Background

Ganteki was born around 1685.

Education

At an early age Ganteki studied Buddhism in Edo (now Tokyo) and then in Zendoji Temple, Tatebayashi (Gumma Prefecture). During this time he came into contact with many scholarly priests and got to learn the fundamentals of the Jodo sect.

Career

In 1685, Ganteki came to live in the Ikutama-Shoja Temple where he began writing books
