Education
Gazan was a disciple of Gido in Rokuoin. When his master was arrested and imprisoned on a charge of having tried to destroy the Tenryuji Temple, he alone of Gido's disciples remained true to him. When Gido died Gazan became a disciple of Tairyu at Shoganji Temple in Mino Province (Gifu Prefecture). Then returning home in 1899, he succeeded Gido and moved to Tenryuji Temple where he propagated the Rinzai sect.
