Guin studied about 20 years under Jakuen, resident priest in the Sempukuji Temple in Echizen (Fukui Prefecture).
Guin became a priest when he was young and made profound research in Buddhist scriptures of the Kegon and Hokke Sect (Avatamuska Sutra and Nichiren's doctrine).
In 1259, he became its chief priest at the dying wish of his master.
In 1314, Guin became the fifth chief priest of the Eiheiji Temple in compliance with the request of Michisada Fujiwara, lord of Izumo Province (Shimane Prefecture). During his tenure of the position which extended over a dozen years, he rebuilt the Eiheiji Temple which was in a dilapidated condition. In his late years, he retired and turned over the post of Eiheiji chief priest to Donki.
