Studied at Exeter School. Exhibitioner of Cavendish College, Cambridge, 1890. Graduate of Christ’s College, 1893, in Applied Science.
Some time demonstrator in Science at Exeter Technical College.
Bachelor of Arts Of Cambridge University. Bachelor of Arts 1901.
Qualified afterwards as Milling Engineer. 1st class honours City and Guilds, 1896. After an accident entailing the loss of portions of three fingers, engaged in journalistic work for technical and trade papers.
Was always fond of drawing and painting.
Studied water-colour under a master at age of 13. Recommenced sketching, 1897.
Took up art professionally, 1898. Originated the exhibition of works by modern painters at Exeter, which has since developed into the Devon and Cornwall Fine Art Society.
