Aamada Guan was born in 1854. He was called Kyugoro, later Goro Amada.

He joined the Imperialist forces in Bosliin-no-eki (battle between the Imperial and Sho.gunate forces in 1868) when he was 14 yeays old. After returning home, he found his parents missing and traveled widely in Japan in search of them but without success. Became a Buddhist priest, assuming the name of Tetsugan or Guan. His waka poems, are collected in Guaniko.
