Elected First lieutenant. Promoted captain, 1862. In service 3 years 5 months.
Captured on field, Ream’s Station, Virginia. 6 months in prisons at Salisbury, North Carolina, Andersonville, and Macon, Georgia, Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. Escaped from Columbia prison November 29, 1864, and reached Union lines December 16, nearly starved.
