After obtaining a higher education Abdul Kalam became employee at Defense Research Institute. In 1960 Kalam received a fellowship of the American aerospace organization for progressive scientific research results. In 1980 his design-engineering department launched into the orbit the first Indian artificial Earth satellite. India thereby became the fifth country of the world which succeeded in realizing the space program independently. Just then in 1982 Abdul Kalam held a post of head Defense Research Institute and leaded the India program of rocket construction where he worked before as a simple scientist.
In 1992 Abdul Kalam was appointed to the post of the scientific councillor of the Indian Minister of Defense and became one of the nuclear weapon developers. In May 11, 1998 a number of underground nuclear explosions was successfully conducted under his guidance.
After that well realized project Abdul Kalam became an adviser of the science prime minister of India. In his personal point of view the fact of restrains on nuclear weapons helped India and Pakistan to avoid a large-scale war. Thus Abdul Kalam mediately created a stability element in the region and furhered that two countries had not launched a war.
More than forty years he devoted himself to the development of rockets and satellites. One of the last programs in which Kalam took part is the program of creation of the Indian fighter.
On July 18, 2002 Abdul Kalam polled more than 90 percent of votes was elected the president of India.
