Career
He represented his country in the steeplechase at the 2004 Summer Olympics, running in the heats. He was the bronze medallist in the steeplechase at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Athletics. He followed this up with another bronze at the African Junior Championships in Athletics the next year.
Chemlal was suspended by the IAAF from December 2004 to December 2006.
He returned to international competition at the 2008 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and ran in the heats of the steeplechase at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
