He graduated from the Engineering College in Tokyo, went to Germany in 1885 to study geology and lithology.
He was appointed an engineer of the Agriculture and Commerce Ministry after his return to Japan. He was also chief of the Mining Supervisory Bureau, professor at Kyoto University. After resigning the professorship he became a director of the Meiji Milk Products Manufacturing Company.
