After the Tokugawa Shogunate regime was established, he devoted himself to riparian and other public works. He is particularly known for the excavation of the Kanda Canal which brought water to the capital from the Tama River, the vestiges of which still remain today. The gorgeous edifices of the Nikko Shrine were constructed also under his direction.
