He settled in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1882 and converted about 2,000 acres of waste land into farmland.Then he moved to Hakodate City, established the Hokkaido Cement Manufacturing Company at Kamiiso village and became its director. He was also director of the Hakodate Hydroelectric Power Company, a bank and some other firms.
He was a member of the House of Representatives.
