Career
He was born to Honorary William and Martha (Nutting) Spencer in Vermont. He moved to Iowa in 1841, and began with a small farm. When he died, he had hundreds of acres to his name, including a fruit grove known across the county.
He also served as postmaster in Spencer"s Grove.
