Buford, Abraham was born on January 18, 1820 in Woodford County, Kentucky, United States. Son of William B. and Frances (Kirtley) Buford.

Education

Graduated from the United States Mli. Academy, 1841.

Career

Commissioned First lieutenant United States Army during Mexican War, 1846, captain, 1853. Stock raiser, specializing in horses and short horn cattle, Kentucky, 1854-1861. Commissioned brigadier general Confederate Army, 1862.

Returned to stock raising after war, also bred race horses.
