1903-1907 member, Bolshevik Party. 1907-1917 Menshevik and Menshevik-Internationalist. From 1920 research, ed and teaching work at 2nd Moscow State University, Institute of Red Professor, Communist Academy, Marx-Engels Institute, Institute of History of Sciences and Engineer.
1926-1930 simultaneously exec ed, periodical Pod znamenem marksizma. Helped found Militant Materialists Social and Friends of Hegel’s Dialectics Social. 1935-1945 Presidium member, USSR Academy of Sciences and acad secretary, Department of History and Philosophy, USSR Academy of Sciences.
From 1945 senior associate, Institute of Philosophy, USSR Academy of Sciences. Worked on the history of philosophy, soc-political thought and Marxist philosophy. 1931 criticised for "taking Menshevik idealistic stands on a number of important problems”.
