1911 began lit work; 1911-1917 head Art Criticism Department, newspaper Russkiye vedomosti. Contributed to journals Apollon Kul’tura i zhizn’, Vestnik tcatra, lskusstvo, Teatral'noe obozreniye, Teatr i muzyka, Novaya rampa, Rabochiy i teatr and Teatr: after 1917 October Revol worked for Museum Department, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Education and Tret’yakov Gallery.
1920-1926 artistic and sets mang, Moscow Arts Theater, 1940-1950 taught at State Institute of Stagecraft. 1950-1954 professor, Tashkent Theatrical Institute. Lectured on history of Russian theater and set designing.
Wrote several studies on history of Russian and Western fine arts and articles on work of painters F.F. Fcdorovskiy, V.V. Dmitriyev, P.V. Vii’yams, et cetera Translated and edited a number of works by Italian, French and Ancient writers.
