Achi Omi was born about 290. He was a great grandson of Emperor Ling of the Han Dynasty.

In 289 he came to Japan, bringing with him other Chinese from 17 districts. Having been naturalized as a Japanese, he was granted a plot of land in Takechi-no-kori, Yamato Province (Nara Prefecture). When Emperor Richu was still Crown Prince, Prince Sumiyoshi-noNaka revolted, and Achi informed the Crown Prince of the revolt. He was later rewarded with a high post in the Imperial regime. He contributed much to the ancient textile industry of Japan by bringing to Japan many skillful Chinese women weavers from the province of Wu.
