Doctor of Medicine, University Pennsylvania, 1793. Studied at London, Edinburgh, Gottingen, mineralogy at Ecole des Mines, Paris.

Career

Became member American Philosophical Society, 1797, secretary, 1799-1808, counselor, 1810-1811. Earliest American expert in mineral analysis. Ran drug and apothecary shop, Philadelphia, early 1800’s, also laboratory for manufacturing chemicals (manufactured 1st mercurials in American).
