Career
He is currently playing with the Shallow Lake Crushers of the Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA). Smyth played five seasons (2000–2004) of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), scoring 23 goals and 21 assists for 44 points, while earning 556 penalty minutes, in 172 OHL games played. Smyth began his professional career with the Portuguese Huron Beacons, skating in four contests with the United Hockey League team towards the end of the 2003-2004 season.
Smyth moved around the minor leagues for the next five seasons before being traded from the Mississippi RiverKings to the Arizona Sundogs at the 2009-2010 CHL Trade Deadline.
Smyth played four seasons and 137 games with the Arizona Sundogs, scoring 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points, and earning 690 penalty minutes, before he was released from the team on February 14, 2013 to complete the 2012-2013 CHL season and playoffs with the Denver Cutthroats.
