He won the silver medal in the men"s under-23 event at the 2016 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Heusden-Zolder. At the world championship cyclocross in 2016, while still a round left to finish, Toupalik raised his arms thinking he won and slowed down, before the Belgian competitors Eli Iserbyt and Quinten Hermans.
