Adolf Frey was an American composer of German birth.
Frey, Adolf was born on April 4, 1865 in Landau, Rheinpfalz, Germany. Son of Peter and Mary (Hessert) Frey.
Educated gymnasium in Landau. Graduate Stuttgart, Master of Music. Studied with Frau Schurmann and Brahms.
Composition with Doctor Faisst.
Born in Landau, he was a pupil of Johannes Brahms, Immanuel Faiszt, and Clara Schumann. From 1887-1893 he was a musician to Prince Alexander Frederick of Hesse. He then moved to the United States, where he began teaching on the faculty of Syracuse University in the Fall of 1893.
Married Maude van Tassel, of Syracuse, New York, June 10, 1897.
