1915-1917 laboratory assistant at a plant in Odessa. 1917-1923 worked at higher educational establishments in Odessa. From 1923 at L.Ya. Karpov Chemical Institute (later Physicochemical Institute).
From 1930 also professor, Moscow University. Specialized in stability of colloidal systems and photochemistry. Studied coaggulation of colloids by electrolytes and established a connection between the adsorption of ions and the stability of colloidal systems
Devised the adsorption theory of photographic development and explained the effects of adsorption on absorption spectra and the sensitizing effect of dyes.
