Busch, Adolf Georg Wilhelm was born on August 8, 1891 in Siegen, Westphalia. Son of Wilhelm and Henrietta (Schmidt) Busch.

Education

Studied under Fritz Steinbach, Willy Hess (violin), Bram Eldering, University of Cologne. Under Hugo Grueters (composition) at Bonn. Honorary Doctor Music, University of Edinburgh, 1933.

Career

1 daughter, Irene (Mistress Rudolf Serkin). Married second Doctor Hedgwig Vischer, September 1, 1947. Children—Nicholas, Thomas.

Swiss citizen since 1935. Came to the United States, 1939, naturalized in 1949. Made debut as concert violinist at age of 18.

Concert-master, Konzertverein, Vienna, 1912. Head of violin department Berlin Hochschule, 1918. Formed famous string quartet, 1912.

Also formed chamber music orchestra in Basle, 1935. Soloist throughout Europe. Toured Europe, Egypt and Palestine after Introduction of the Jewish Laws, refusing to concertize in Germany after 1933.

Visited United States as soloist in concerts conducted by Arturo Toscanini, 1931. With Rudolf Serkin played recitals of piano and violin sonatas all over the world. Re-established Busch Chamber Music Orchestra, 1941, since toured United States Composer of choral, orchestral, vocal, sacred, organ and chamber music, sonatas, violin solos and violin duets.
