Polansky graduated from Kansas State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy.

Polansky served on the Kansas Energy Council, the Governor"s Council on Homeland Security and Kansas Task Force on Methamphetamine and Illegal Drugs. Polansky was appointed Executive Director of the Kansas Farm Service Agency on July 1, 2009 by the Obama Administration. He served in the same capacity from 1993 to 2001 under the Clinton Administration.
