Adrian Prenkaj is a Kosovo diplomat and the current Political Adviser on European Integration to the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, He assumed this role in February 2012, following 3 years as First Secretary for Political Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in the United States.
Education
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the Universiteti i Prishtinëson In 2008, he completed a master"s degree in international relations (Europe) at the School of Government and International Affairs, Durham University, in the United Kingdom, with focus on European Union policy process, United States Foreign Policy and German foreign policy. He has also completed a Debate Skills Program from the University of Central Missouri, and American English and Culture Program from Arizona State University.
Career
Before joining the diplomatic service of Kosovo, he worked as a Senior European Affairs Officer in the Agency for European Integration of Kosovo. Adrian Prenkaj served as President's representative in the Kosovo’s Negotiating Team for the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union. He was also involved in coordination and implementation of the European Union Visa Liberalization Roadmap for Kosovo.
He has worked throughout his tenure advising on a range of domestic and foreign policy issues, with legislation and policy processes in line with European Union accession process.
He coordinates the work of the National Council for European Integration, an institutional mechanism established and led by President Jahjaga. In 2013, the Council adopted the first Kosovo National Strategy for European Integration, ensuring consensus with all actors involved in the process.
In February 2015, he was appointed by the President to coordinate the efforts of national institutions and United Nations agencies in Kosovo to improve policy performance on indicators to make Kosovo eligible country for the United States Government"s Millennium Challenge Corporation (Master Control Console) development funds. On 06 November 2015, Master Control Console announced that Kosovo has passed the scorecard with 13 out of 20 indicators.
At its quarterly meeting on 16 December 2015, the Millennium Challenge Corporation Board of Directors voted to make Kosovo eligible for a compact program, Master Control Console’s large-scale investment program
Prenkaj also developed President"s strategy incorporating digital platforms and social media to engage directly with citizens.
