Educated locally and graduated in engineering at the University of Khartoum.
After joining the railways he was sent to England on a study course. He rose to be general manager of the railways and took a great interest in modernising trains and rolling stock. His administrative ability led to being appointed chairman of a commission reviewing methods at the government stores. He was given the task of reorganising Sudan Airways and was appointed chairman of the Administrative Council. His first love remained the railways and he maintained a strong interest as a minister in their development.
Graduate engineer fascinated by railways and proud of one thing above all introducing diesel engines into the Sudanese railways. A technocrat minister with a high reputation for his talents in organising, not only in the railways but in Sudan Airways.
